CPLP Agreement

agreement

On June 10th (Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities Day), when the Presidents of the Republic of Portugal and Cape Verde met, the idea of both countries being committed to reaching an agreement of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) to find a solution to facilitate the visa system was reinforced.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, stated that at the next CPLP meeting, some ideas to facilitate circulation among the member states of the community will be discussed. The purpose of this CPLP agreement is that citizens of the member states can work and study on national territory without having to demonstrate a criminal record, employment contract, promise of employment contract, or means of subsistence. Short-stay visas may also be facilitated.

This agreement may revolutionize the circulation between CPLP countries, but will still have to be approved at the meeting on the 19th and the new rules have to be ratified by each country.
