Portugal appears in fourth place in the annual Passport Index 2021 ranking. The Portuguese passport allows visa-free travel to 140 countries. Of these, 105 require no visa on arrival and departure, and 35 only on arrival.
In the same position as Portugal are six other countries: Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Ireland.
In first place is New Zealand, giving access to a total of 143 countries without a visa, partially or totally.
Followed by four countries, in the second place, that allow free movement to 142 locations: Germany, Spain, South Korea, and Australia. In all of them, a visa is required for only 56 countries.
In third place are Finland, Austria, Luxembourg, Italy, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates, whose passports allow visa-free access to 141 countries.
In last place is Afghanistan, where a passport gives access to only 31 places without a visa.
