The Government has just extended the validity of Immigration documents until the end of June 2025, as it is impossible to make the necessary changes promptly, which require approval at the European level.
Thus, documents such as work visas, residence permits, or mobility visas have their validity extended by another year, which eases the workload of AIMA, which already has more than 410,000 pending cases.
New AIMA Mission Structure
To solve these pending cases, a new Mission Structure for the Recovery of Pending Cases at AIMA was also announced, aiming to regularize and finalize all pending cases precisely by June 2025.
Until then, more than 300 new professionals will work on the administrative processing of cases and ensure good service to applicants.
It should be noted that many of the pending cases at AIMA are related to the Expression of Interest, a legal resource that the new Government recently abolished.
This means that requests of this nature that will not be followed up due to lack of payment or other reasons – it is estimated that more than half of the existing ones – will be canceled and, therefore, will no longer weigh on the Agency for Migration’s pending cases.
