Investment raised during the month of February rose 31%, totaling more than 55.2 million euros. During this period, most golden visas were issued to citizens of Chinese nationality
In February 2023, investment raised through the Golden Visa Portugal Program grew by 31%, compared to the same period in 2022, according to data released by the Portuguese news agency Lusa, after consultation with the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF). This is an investment that surpassed the barrier of 55.2 million euros.
In January 2023 and through the Residence Permit for Investment program – ARI – it grew by 27% compared to the same period in 2022. In simple terms, between January 1, 2023, and February 28, 2023, foreign investment is accounted for through the Golden Visa Portugal Program of more than 55.2 million euros.
Also during the month of February and following the official figures, 209 visas were issued for family reunification which, added to the 153 in January, in global terms means that in the first two months of 2023, Portugal issued 362 visas of this nature.
The report indicates that in February 130 gold visas were issued, based on the following reasons:
- 87 for the acquisition of properties (of which 50 are for urban rehabilitation)
- 43 per capital transfer
During the month of February 2023, Chinese nationality once again led the “ranking” with regard to obtaining Golden Visas through, after having lost this place to the United States of America, during the period between 1 and January 31, 2023. After China, the countries on the list are the United States of America, Turkey, India, and Brazil.
The Golden Visa Portugal Program was created in October 2012 with the aim of attracting foreign investment. Since then and until February 28, 2023, this investment exceeds more than 6,852 million euros. Over this period, 11,758 Ari were awarded, mostly to citizens of the following countries: China, Brazil, United States of America, Turkey and South Africa. Regarding Golden Visas awarded through the acquisition of real estate, the figures show that since the creation of the Program, 10,755 have been granted and that this number symbolizes an investment of more than 6,118 million euros.
