This Wednesday, August 7, the Ministries of Justice and Home Affairs announced that as part of the processes of granting or renewing the residence permit, foreign citizens do not need to hand the Portuguese Criminal Record to SEF.
Now, it will be enough for the applicant to authorize the SEF to access its registration, thus avoiding the travel to the service of the criminal record services, in the courts and in Citizen’s Stores. Only if the result of the consultation promoted by the SEF recommends it or is inconclusive, can the SEF notify the citizen to present this document in person.
