Economist Impact evaluates the accessibility, availability, variety, quality and safety of food and Portugal is in the top 10 of countries that complies with security measures
At a time when global food security is increasingly as a concern and it is an ongoing issue, it is worth addressing the Global Food Security Index – GFSI – developed by Economist Impact and sponsored by Corteva Agriscience. This ranking, relative to 2022, evaluates – in 113 countries – the following variables:
- Accessibility
- Availability
- Quality
- Natural resources
- Food safety
- Resilience
In practice, Economist Impact – based on data from the last 11 years – analyzes the global food system in 113 countries. The study states that the food security trend has been weakening, that is, the levels of the variables described above have decreased. According to the report, this situation is due, on the one hand, to the pandemic that during the years 2020-2022 conditioned food and, on the other hand, to the inflation that we are experiencing, with high values of goods.
Despite the adverse context and in an Index that includes 113 countries, Portugal stands out in the TOP 10, that is, it is among the best performers in terms of food safety.
Countries in the Top 10:
1) Finland
2) Ireland
3) Norway
4) France
5) Netherlands
6) Japan
7) Canada
8) Sweden
9) United Kingdom
10) Portugal
