The capital of Portugal stands out in the Brand Finance City Index 2023, which evaluates the best city brands in the world
Lisbon ranks 43rd in the Brand Finance City Index 2023 (from the brand evaluation consultant, Brand Finance), which evaluates the 100 best brands in cities in the world, based on a global survey of around 15,000 people, carried out in April 2023 and in 20 countries around the world. The Brand Finance City Index table places London as the best city brand in the world, followed by New York, Paris, Los Angeles, and Sydney. According to this report, Lisbon combines several factors: gastronomy, architectural and cultural heritage, lively atmosphere and fado that internationalize the city to make it a destination of choice. The score of the capital of Portugal in this ranking was 67.5/100.
Why Lisbon?
- It occupies 11th place worldwide when classifying the people and values of the city·
- It occupies 14th place in the table in terms of Culture and Heritage·
- It is in 23rd place in terms of habitability·
- In matters related to sustainability it is found in 37th position.
In a press release to the Portuguese press, Pilar Alonso Ulloa, General Manager of the Iberian Peninsula and South America at Brand Finance reveals that “a combination of factors such as expanding tourism, the promotion of innovation and technology, foreign investment, hosting events cultural values and commitment to sustainability contributed to consolidate Lisbon’s status as a city in constant growth and global projection.” from around 15,000 respondents globally about the general reputation of each city and the willingness that each of the participants demonstrated in choosing each city as a place to live or work (in person or remotely), study, visit, invest or live after retirement.
This report also combined other pillars such as sustainability, the transport network and investment/business opportunities. The Brand City Finance Index is a comprehensive study of brand perception in cities and is based on research carried out in 20 countries around the world. The aim is to have an outside perspective on each city as local perceptions are not included in the final accounts.
