The Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade – AICEP, raised during the year 2022, 47 productive investment projects, representing 7233 jobs and 2678 million euros, in terms of Foreign Direct Investment, FDI. The data were released by AICEP in the magazine Portugal Global for the month of April.
According to the data presented, the 47 Foreign Direct Investment projects have different profiles, although the vast majority are based on a technological basis. In common, the fact that Portugal is an attractive country, at various levels, for attracting foreign investment, namely in terms of talent, international interest and its geographical location insofar as it is part of the European Union.
Within the scope of the 7233 jobs created, according to AICEP, more than half (about 4000) are related to technological areas, namely, software development and information technologies.
The countries of origin of investment in Portugal are the United States of America (leading the table), followed by Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Nordic countries.
For investors, Portugal has strong skills in terms of talent and AICEP reports that in 2022, more than 93,200 students completed higher education, “of which around 30 percent in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics”.
