It is aimed at those who have entered Portugal as a tourist, but who wish to establish their residence after having signed a contract for the provision of services with a company based in Portugal.
To obtain this residence permit, the worker must, among other things, show that it has signed a service contract with a company based in Portugal.
Step 1 – Expression of Interest
After entering Portugal as a tourist and having signed a work contract with a company based in Portugal, the Applicant may submit its Expression of Interest to the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF).
Step 2 – Application for a residence permit
After the application has been approved by SEF, the Applicant may go to one of the SEF delegations and there it will be interviewed to collect biometric data (photograph, fingerprints and signature).
Step 3 – Residence card issuance
After the interview, the residence card will be sent to the Applicant’s address in Portugal.
Note: the estimated time for completion of the procedure is 2-3 years, during which the applicant will not be able to travel abroad.
The residence card is valid for 2 years. At the end of these 2 years, it is possible to renew it for an additional period of 3 years. At the end of the 5 years the applicant may choose to apply for a permanent residence permit or Portuguese nationality.
