Who it is for:

The European citizen certificate (CRUE) is intended for European citizens who intend to stay in Portugal for a period of more than 3 consecutive months.

It applies to citizens of the following nationalities: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden – or from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the Principality of Andorra and Switzerland.

Requirements:

The CRUE application requires the following documents, among others:

European identification document: passport or identity card.
Proof of address.

Process

Citizens must submit the application to the town hall in their area of residence within 120 days of entering Portugal. The CRUE is usually issued for 5 years and on the same day.
