Aimed at those who have held a temporary residence permit for 5 years and wish to continue living in Portugal.
Demonstrate that you have held a residence permit for at least 5 years and have a basic knowledge of Portuguese (A2 level).
Step 1 – Make an appointment at AIMA
The holder of the temporary residence permit must obtain an appointment with AIMA (Agency for Migration Integration and Asylum) to apply for permanent residence.
Step 2 – Application for a residence permit
The applicant must attend the appointment with AIMA (Agency for Migration Integration and Asylum) to submit the necessary documentation and collect biometric data (photograph, fingerprints and signature).
Step 3 – Receiving the residence card
After the appointment, the residence card will be sent to the applicant’s registered address in Portugal.
Although the permanent residence permit has no expiry date, the residence card will be issued for 5 years and renewable for equal periods.
