It is aimed at citizens of the countries of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), the Principality of Andorra and Switzerland, as well as their family members (regardless of country of origin) who intend to live in Portugal for a period of more than three months.
It applies to citizens of the following nationalities: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden – or of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the Principality of Andorra and Switzerland.
Demonstrate that you have held a Certificate of Registration as a Citizen of the European Union (CRUE) for the last 5 years.
Step 1 – Appointment at AIMA
The holder of the Certificate of Registration of a Citizen of the European Union (CRUE) must obtain an appointment with AIMA (Agency for Migration Integration and Asylum) to apply for permanent residence.
Step 2 – Application for a residence permit
The applicant must attend the appointment with AIMA (Agency for Migration Integration and Asylum) to submit the necessary documentation and collect biometric data (photograph, fingerprints and signature).
Step 3 – Receiving the residence card
After the appointment, the residence card will be sent to the applicant’s registered address in Portugal.
Although the permanent residence permit has no expiry date, the residence card will be issued for 10 years and renewable for equal periods.
