It is aimed at foreign citizens who wish to invest in Portugal and, through this investment, obtain a residence permit, as well as their close family members.
To obtain a Golden Visa, the investor must, among other requirements, prove that he or she has made one of the following investments:
Capital Transfer
Job creation
Support for the Arts and Research
Note: the term “low-density territory” refers to places on a list published by the government with fewer than 100 inhabitants per square kilometre or with a gross domestic product (GDP) per capita of less than 75 % of the national average.
Step 1 – Investment and application submission
Once the investment has been made, the application can be submitted, subject to pre-approval by AIMA (Agency for Migration Integration and Asylum).
Step 2 – Application for a residence permit
Once the application has been pre-approved and there are places available, the applicant and their family must attend an appointment with AIMA (Agency for the Integration of Migration and Asylum) to provide updated information and to collect biometric data (photograph, fingerprints and signature).
Step 3 – Approval of the residence permit application
AIMA (Agency for Migration Integration and Asylum) will then carry out a detailed analysis of the residence permit application and, if it is approved, will request payment of the relevant fees.
Step 4 – Receipt of the residence card
Once the fees have been paid, the residence card will be sent to the applicant’s registered address in Portugal.
The residence card is valid for 2 years. At the end of these 2 years, it can be renewed every 2 years, at which point the investments will be assessed in terms of their impact on scientific and cultural activity and the promotion of foreign direct investment and job creation.
After 5 years, you can choose to apply for a permanent residence permit and/or Portuguese nationality.
Note: the investment must be maintained for a minimum of 5 years and the minimum periods of stay in Portugal, counted from the date of issue of the residence card, must be respected:
