Children (natural and adopted), grandchildren and Great-grandchild of Portuguese citizens can obtain Portuguese citizenship, although each one has to fulfil different requirements, documents and procedures.
For example, the procedures are different depending on whether the applicant is the child of a Portuguese national of origin or of a Portuguese national who obtained Portuguese citizenship by naturalisation, and it may also make a difference whether the child was born before or after the parent became Portuguese.
Citizenship is never immediate. It is necessary to locate the birth certificate of the Portuguese to assess the maintenance and quality of their citizenship and to analyse the documents of the descendant to see if they meet the requirements and have all the documents.
